Guided Walk of Oxford and a driving tour of The Thames Valley - 10 hours

£800 per tour - max 6 people

War time leader Winston Churchill is said to have called the River Thames the “silver thread which runs through the history of Britain”. On this day trip I will drive you through pretty towns and villages as we follow the course of Old Father Thames en route to Oxford's famous colleges.

Thames Valley Drive

Leaving London behind we will take an hours drive out into the beautiful English countryside for a tour of the Thames Valley. Following the route of England's longest river, the Thames, this scenic drive through the quintessential English countryside of the Thames Valley will pass through picturesque markets towns such as Henley on Thames, famed for its Regatta, Marlow where meadows line the river and a graceful 19th century suspension bridge straddles the water and West Wycombe. Here there is the option to visit the Hellfire Caves below the church and mausoleum to local knight Sir Francis Dashwood, who founded the Hellfire Club to entertain his 18th century Cabinet colleagues and his close friend Benjamin Franklin, a frequent visitor to the Caves.

The Dashwoods still reside at West Wycombe House, a National Trust property, where a perfectly preserved 18th century rococo property sits within picturesque landscaped gardens.

There will be plenty of opportunities to take a stroll by the river and to have lunch in a traditional English pub.

In the afternoon we will visit Oxford for our walking tour of the City before driving back to London.
